"Earth Voice" is a CD that is a platform for Robert's didgeridoo playing. The didgeridoo playing
though is somewhat different than what is typically heard. The first track "Earth Voice" does have
the more rhythmic sound of the didgeridoo, but from there, it moves into more of an earthy
call. The music on this ranges from very tribal, rhythmic pieces, to more ethereal beautiful
atmospheric trances. Of special note is "Spirit Life". A truly unique piece of music, with long
drawn out didgeridoo, and echoing crickets and cacadias. This is music that reminds one of
ancient connection and yet, the ethereal connection as well. |

This CD features fine didgeridoo playing blended with flute and synth sounds. I like it better
than at first. The opening title track emphasizes the didgeridoo sound, and though well-done
it may seem harsh at times. On the rest of the CD, however, it fades more into the background,
and Carty's usual brilliant synthesizer comes to the fore again. Enlightening Beauty revolves
around a repeating motif similar to that of the great piece "Love Life" from Natural Wonder,
and Earth Energy features hypnotic rhythms. Spirit Life makes the spirit of the Earth soar,
and the CD concludes with a beautiful, quiet, rythmic duet between didg and flute sounds.

"Earth Voice" features Robert Carty's didg virtuosity. The didg drone sounds more electronic
than usual. The high-energy rhythm kicks in and this set becomes a techno tribal primal
masterpiece. The primal atmosphere is enhanced by nature samples. The didg call from afar.
This is certainly a top five pick. Had Steve Roach not had such a great year, this would be
THE top pick.
